The absolute masters of melodic death metal from its cradle in Gothenburg – The Halo Effect are coming to Sofia, Bulgaria for the first time at the invitation of Fest Team on November 21, 2025 at Pirotska 5 Event Center. The supergroup, composed of former and current members of the cult bands In Flames, Dark Tranquillity and Passenger, is one of the strongest new names in the “Gothenburg sound” – a sound that literally changed the face of extreme metal in the 90s and inspired generations of musicians around the world. The Halo Effect combines classic melodic death metal with a modern sound, uncompromising energy and craftsmanship that only veterans of the genre can offer.

It’s no exaggeration to call Swedish melodic death metal band The Halo Effect “the architects of an entire Scandinavian era in metal.” The supergroup’s lineup includes virtuoso guitarists Niclas Engelin and Jesper Strömblad, fierce vocalist Mikael Stanne, and a solid rhythm section – bassist Peter Iwers and his longtime collaborator, the relentless drummer Daniel Svensson. Having met in the late 1980s and playing together in various lineups throughout the 1990s, they have become fundamental figures in Gothenburg’s metal scene. As part of the two most influential bands that brought Swedish metal to the world stage – In Flames and Dark Tranquillity, they helped shape melodic death metal and build the iconic sound of Gothenburg.

The Halo Effect not only pay homage to the golden era of melodic death metal, but also upgrade the genre with contemporary elements and invaluable experience gained over decades on the world stage. Their music is powerful, melodic and uncompromising, an extremely effective combination of pulsating rhythms, furious vocals and dark melody.

The concert in Sofia is part of the band’s European tour, and fans at Pirotska 5 Event Center can expect one of the strongest live performances in heavy music today in November.

Their debut album Days of the Lost (2022) is a true return to the raw energy of Scandinavian melodic death, which carries the spirit of the classic years, but also the depth and weight of musicians who are returning with new strength after the pandemic to “revive” the beloved genre. Tracks like Shadowminds and Feel What I Believe not only combine uncompromising energy with masterful tones, but are also a perfect example of their mastery. With the beginning of 2025, the band released a new album – March Of The Unheard, which once again demonstrates a brutal Scandinavian sound. The musicians share that the new songs will take center stage in the setlist of the upcoming The Halo Effect tour and promise an exciting and dynamic evening for fans. Tickets go on sale this Thursday on the ticketstation.bg network and will be priced from 55 to 110 leva. The Facebook event is here.
